Meet Our New Teacher!

Maria Hrabovsky likes to say that she has been involved in sewing and needlework since the age of two because that’s when she first asked for a needle and thread so she could “sew.” She started actual sewing lessons in grades 7 and 8 after which she sewed clothing for herself and later for her family.

Her fascination with quilts started in first grade when her teacher read stories about pioneers and their quilts and to this day, scrap quilts are her favourites. She started quilting in 1985. In 2001 she realized that a great deal of her husband’s art work would make great quilt patterns so she began designing and selling patterns based on them and then began designing her own patterns as well.

Maria and Michael and their quilts have appeared in Quiltmaker, The Canadian Quilter, and Miniature Quilt Ideas. They were interviewed for a series on Couples in the Quilt Business for The Professional Quilter. Maria’s quilts have been shown at three International Quilt Markets. She was an elementary school teacher for 10 years after which she retired to raise a family. She now enjoys teaching quilting.

This class is for first time quilters and those who have just begun quilting on their own and want to be sure that they have covered all of the basics. No previous quilting experience is needed. You do need to know how to use your sewing machine.

Everything will be covered including quilt terminology and the basic tools needed for quilting. Simple, easy, machine quilting will be taught. You will also learn how to make a hanging sleeve for wall quilts.

You will be guided step by step along the way from purchasing the necessary fabric to completing your first quilt. You will learn how to follow pattern directions and the how and why of the various steps, along with the when and the how of making your own choices and decisions along the way.

When the class has ended, you will have a completed quilt in the size of your choice (decided in lesson one) - wall quilt, baby quilt, crib quilt, or child’s quilt.

March 1st - Button, Button, YOU'VE Got the Button! Eleanor Levie - We all know you've got a big old jar or box--or maybe a treasure chest chock-full of buttons. This class is sure to unbutton and unleash your imagination to think about buttons outside the box—and onto quilts, and quilted accessories, and wearables. Level: All Quilters
Scheduled start time: February 21st
Duration: How ever long it takes

For those brave enough to begin a Dear Jane quilt. Are you game enough to attempt this? Would you like to join others crazy enough to make all these small blocks? Would you like some help both in tips and emotional support to go along on this journey?
Kim will be our hostess for this crazy program.
Several of us quilters have decided we need a group for getting through this quilt and what better fun than having one hour a week for help with making the blocks and fun sharing this folly with others. Everyone will need their own Dear Jane book and/or CD because we abide by copy right laws here at QuiltCampus. Kim will be starting us off with the easiest blocks first but anyone can begin on any blocks they choose. We will be doing one block a week. Those of you that have started the blocks are encouraged to join us. Those of you not doing this quilt are still welcome to come and watch us, or even laugh at us. Those of you that are over achievers can do as many blocks a week as you choose. It is all about having fun and helping each other with ideas for easier piecing or sharing tips on making these blocks. You can bet this will be a fun hour and the time will go quickly. We hope you will join us.
If you have any questions, please e-mail Kim.

We hope to see you soon in #quiltcampus quilter's chat channel!
