Around a Star
- Fabric Requirements for Top

You want a good contrast between the background fabric and all the other fabrics (color #1, color #2 and color #3). For the other fabrics (color #1, color #2 and color #3), you can use any 3 colors that you love to work with and go well together. It is best *NOT* to use directional fabrics like stripes. For this project, it is best to use medium to small print fabric. Use a fabric that you can recognize the printed pattern in a 3" square.

Use the background fabric as a focus fab that is busy and has lots of color. You can use it to pull colors from the other fabrics.

Fabric Requirement for top

Background:

8-2/3 yards

Color #1:

1 yard

Color #2:

1-2/3 yards

Color #3:

2 yards

But what color is what? Let's use Liz's top as an example. Visit the picture of her top. The star pink center is color #1, the green points of the star are color #2 and the yellow broken frame around the star is color #4. This leaves the dark blue as the back ground.
It is best to use the same fabric for all the background. However if you have fabrics that are very similar you can substitute a new background fabric per section. Follow the guidelines below:
middle and row 1 (step 1 thru 4) - 1-1/3 yards
row 2 (step 5 thru 8) - 2-1/3 yards
row 3 (step 9 thru 12) - 2-2/3 yards
border (step 13 thru 17) - 3 yards
Background Color #1 Color #2 Color #3
