Install and Setup mIRC

If you do not have it already, you will need to install mIRC onto your computer. You can get the free software at www.mirc.com.

These instructions are written from mIRC version 6.16 and version 6.17.
If the diagrams do not look familiar, Click here for older mIRC versions.

After you have install mIRC, double click the mIRC icon on your desktop.

The program will open up and the About mIRC window should pop up. Click the Continue button at the bottom to close the About mIRC window.
The mIRC Options window should pop up. If it does not, then go to the drop down menus at the top and click View|Options. When the mIRC Options window pops up, make sure that Connect in the left window is highlighted. If it is not then click Connect. Your mIRC should look similar to Figure 1.

You need to fill in the four requested fields: Full Name, E-mail Address, Nickname and Alternative. I suggest you use your first name only and a fake e-mail address. When you are connected to a server, other chatters can see the information you provide. Put a check mark in the box before Invisible mode. Your mIRC Options window should similar to Figure 2.

Now lets set up mIRC to get onto the server that host the #QuiltCampus channel. In the mIRC Options window, click Servers right under Connect in the left window. mIRC Options window should now look like Figure 3.

Click the Add button and the Add Server window will pop up.

Include the following information in the top two boxes.

Description: QuiltCampus
IRC Server: irc.serenity-irc.net

You may copy/paste the information from this web page if you like. It is very important that you have the IRC Server information typed correctly. Any typos and it will not connect to the server. The Add Sever window should look like Figure 4.

Click the Add button and the Add Server window will go away and the mIRC Options window will now look like Figure 5. You have just added the server information needed to get onto the server that hosts the #QuiltCampus channel.

Now it is time to connect to the server . Click the Connect To Server button. Wait a little while, for a lot of text will scroll by. When you are connected to the server, the mIRC Favorites window will pop up. If it does not, then go to the drop down menus and click Favorite|Organize Favorites. Type #quiltcampus in the top box as show in Figure 6.

Now click the Join button to the right. If all goes well you will be in the channel.
If you have problems connecting, come in using the Java program. The Op on duty will be more than happy to help with your mIRC.

#QuiltCampus is on a network of several servers. If the server you added above does not connect, you can try another server. Below is a list of servers you can use.
