There are several mIRC/IRC
commands. However we are going to discuss just a few of them. Lets
talk about the ones that are most important for good chatting fun.
|
| join |
| |
The most important
command is used to join a channel. You can do so in the text
line of any window. If you are in a channel and would like
to join #QuiltCampus channel, just type /join
#quiltcampus.
|
|
| quit |
| |
To log off the
servers you type /quit
in any window.
|
|
| part |
| |
To leave a channel
and not be logged of the sever, you use the part command and
it is typed as /part.
|
|
| sound |
| |
You can play a
sound by using the command /sound
<file name>.
In order for this to work the file must already be on your
computer. To play the sound file moo.wav, you type /sound
moo.wav. For the other chatters to here the
sound, the sound file must be on their computer as well.
|
|
| steal
a sound |
| |
If some one plays
a sound and you do not hear it, it could be that the sound
file is not on your computer. You can steal sounds from other
chatters so that you will hear them the next time. The command
to steal a sound is !<nick>
<file name>.
To steal the sound file happy.wav from R0ver, you type !R0ver
happy.wav.

|
| register
|
| |
The command for
registering a nick is /nickserv
register <e-mail
address> <password>.
The password you give is case sensitive. It must be at least
5 characters in length but no more than 32 characters in length.
Lets pretend we
want to register the nick MsDesigns, use the password kitty
and have a real e-mail address msd@city.com.
NOTE:
You can not register the nick MsDesigns for it is already
registered. This is just an example to show you how you would
register the nick MsDesigns. In place of MsDesigns, put in
the nick you would like to register.
Log onto a #QuiltCampus
server. Do not go into any channel but stay in the status
window. First change your nick to MsDesigns and then type
/nickserv register msd@city.com
kitty. After doing that
you are half way there. You need to authorize the nick. Stay
connected to the server and go check your e-mail. Look for
one that is from Nickname Services. In the e-mail
there will be a line that looks something like
2) /msg NickServ
ACTIVATE 1134433770
You need to copy/paste
/msg NickServ ACTIVATE 1134433770
into the text line of the status window (note: the line in
your e-mail will be different than the one above. Use the
one in your e-mail.). If all goes well nickserv should say
Password for MsDesigns
accepted and you
have successfully registered your nick.
|
|
| identify |
| |
When you log onto
a server, nickserv will tell you "This is a registered
nick, please identify to NickServ now." You get 30
seconds to let nickserv know who you are. The nickserv identify
command is written as /nickserv
identify <password>.
To identify nick
MsDesigns that has a password kitty, you type /nickserv
identify kitty. There is a short cut you can
use too. It is /ns id <password>.
If your mIRC #QuiltCampus script, does not automatically identify
you when you log onto a sever, please contact MsDesigns to
get it fixed.
|
|
| me |
| |
Have you seen some
of the chatters type in purple. It looks something like ...
* MsDesigns loves to quilt. This is easy to do by using
the /me command.
If my nick is MsDesigns and I type /me
loves to quilt, it will look like the line
above.
|
|
| nick |
| |
If you like, you
can change your nick while chatting. The command is /nick
<new nick>.
To change your nick to R0ver, you type /nick
R0ver. If someone else has registered the new
nick you picked, you will not be able to keep it.
